Basant Panchami or Vasant Panchami is the festival of bloom and prosperity. It is a festival of Hindu and now celebrated very grand way. Basant Panchami falls on 5th day of the bright half of our Hindu lunisolar calendar month, known as of Magha.
Yellow is the festive color of Basant Panchami. Yellow clothes are worn, yellow flowers are used in decoration and offering to goddess and yellow sweets is served or offered for performing Saraswati Puja. Everywhere yellows are the first few things that come to our mind during the auspicious Hindu festival Basant Panchami.
This holy festival is celebrated as the birthday of Hindu Goddess of Learning and Arts, i.e. Goddess Saraswati.
This spring festival is not region specific and falls on the 5 th day of the moon’s waxing phase.

RAJASTHAN and UTTAR PRADESH
The Goddess of Learning and Arts is worshipped in almost every city of both the states. Known for its holiness, the yellow color pervades the festival celebrations in Rajasthan and U.P. In Schools, art competitions are organized followed with poetry recitation and traditional festival songs to honor the Goddess.
BIHAR:
In districts of this state, the Shrine of the Sun God was established on this auspicious day by King Aila of Allahabad and the day here is celebrated to commemorate the founding of the Shrine. People of Bihar dress up in Yellow clothes, anoint their forehead with turmeric and offer prayer to the Sun God and Goddess Saraswati.
UTTARKASHI
The farming community in the upper reaches of the Himalayas decorates their home with yellow flowers to welcome the season of sowing crops. Here, apart from Goddess Saraswati, lord Shiv and Goddess Parvati are also worshipped as the mother earth and the crops.
PUNJAB and HARYANA:
In North, this auspicious festival is incomplete without kite flying. In Punjab
and Haryana, Spring Carnivals are also held in different places where women sing and dance on folk
songs. Public feasts are organized in Gurudwaras.
WEST BENGAL
Known for its sheer liking for fine arts, the Bengal community organizes a get together in all parts of India to celebrate the festival. Grand Pandals are erected for Saraswati Puja and the idol is worshipped with offerings and sacred rites. Stationery are offered to the Goddess for taking her blessings before using by the students.
