If you were served food which contained a piece of a tree bark, would you eat it? What about pumpkin infested with ants? Or how about ice cream made from stone?
These may sound like foods taken straight out of a fantasy movie, but they are in fact creations by chef Stefan Wiesner.

In a new video from DW Euromaxx, we meet the inventive Swiss chef who shows us exactly how he creates his unique dishes.
“I cook with pretty much all the trees which grow in Switzerland,” says the chef during one of his trips to forage for ingredients in the glorious Swiss mountains.
As well as using trees, Chef Wiesner also grinds up various stone to make flour. Slate, iron ore and granite are three of his favourites, and Chef Wiesner says, “It’s very healthy so long as you don’t eat too much of it. I eat granite every day and it does me a lot of good.”

The last thing we’d thing of would be ice cream made of granite, but it’s become one of the celebrated chefs most popular dishes.
In fact, using such unique ingredients to create his dishes, Chef Wiesner has received a Michelin star, proving that even though you may use rarely seen ingredients, you can still produce world class food. One review has described his food as “The best meal I’ve ever had,’ and that Chef Wiesner is a “True magician.”
We’re not sold yet on the idea of granite flour ice cream, but we’d certainly give it a try!
